Software for NEXTSTEP and OPENSTEP

People say that NEXTSTEP and OPENSTEP as delivered by NeXT are dead. All of it? No, not all of it. There are still a couple of people who stick with their old OPENSTEP machines. At least there's no reason to worry about upgrades...

LaunchBar 1.10

LaunchBar 1.10 is the latest release available for NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP systems. The software is freely available for NEXTSTEP 3.x and OPENSTEP/Mach 4.x (i386, m68k, HPPA and Sparc).

Vmount

Vmount is a port of the Linux filesystems (snapshot from kernel 2.0.25) to NEXTSTEP and OPENSTEP. It is not a kernel module but rather a user-level daemon. Vmount mounts disk partitions formatted as vfat, minix, ext2 or other Linux supported filesystem. The most frequent use is to access floppies and ZIP disks written by other operating systems with long filenames.

Features

  • Runs on NEXTSTEP and OPENSTEP/Mach
  • Mounts ext2, minix, vfat, ntfs, iso9660 and hpfs filesystems
  • Open Source Software: distributed under the GNU General Public License.

MountMe.app

MountMe is a GUI frontend to vmount, integrating it into NeXT's automounting system. Simply insert a vfat formatted floppy and Workspace detects it correctly and mounts it with vmount!

MountMe was intended to be a commercial product. However, since the market for NEXTSTEP and OPENSTEP/Mach software has dissolved, we give away the product for free. Simply enter the string Free Demo as your first name, leave all other fields blank and use the license key 215C3AB8745503070000.

Features

  • Runs on NEXTSTEP and OPENSTEP/Mach
  • Mounts ext2, minix, vfat, ntfs, iso9660 and hpfs filesystems
  • Not Open Source, but free.
